Tharu Cultural Museum & Research Center (TCMRC) of Bachhauli, Chitwan, is the first Tharu indigenous museum in Nepal. It’s objectives are to conserve and educate people about Tharu culture, traditions, indigenous skills, lifestyle and ancient heritage. TCMRC also supports research on Tharu history and culture and hosts scholars from around the world. It has planned to organize a photo exhibition titled “Tharus during the 20th century” in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan. The goal of the project is to preserve and exhibit historical photos related to Tharus, the malaria eradication project and how Tharu history changed over 60-year time period, Tharus’ agricultural practices, the landscape of Tharu settlements, relationship between Tharus and government administration, and Tharu culture.
